Your doctor has ordered a thyroid whole body scan with thyrogen injections for evaluation of thyroid cancer. It is very important to follow these instructions step-by-step in order to get accurate results. Before starting this test you must be able to dedicate 5 days out of a week, beginning on a Monday.
MONDAY: Come to The Endocrine Center office for thyrogen injection between 9-10am.
TUESDAY: Come to The Endocrine Center office for second thyrogen injection between 9-10am
WEDNESDAY: go to the nuclear medicine department at the hospital to receive your radioactive iodine dose.
THURSDAY: rest day
FRIDAY: arrive at the hospital at the scheduled appointment time for your “whole body scan.” Afterwards, return to The Endocrine Center for a thyroglobulin blood test. You must do BOTH the scan and blood test for successful results.
